Born and brought up in Nottingham, Darran graduated from Durham University with a BSc in Applied Physics. Darran worked as a Technical Officer for a large Government research organisation before joining Serjeants in 1998 and eventually qualifying as a European and Chartered patent attorney. Darran became a partner at Serjeants in April 2004.

Away from work, Darran has travelled widely within the United States and is particularly interested in its history and hiking its National Parks. Darran enjoys watching most sports, especially rugby union, and has have been a season ticket holder at the Leicester Tigers for many years.
