Darran Thacker

After graduating from Durham University with a BSc in Applied Physics, Darran worked as a Technical Officer for a large government research organization before joining Serjeants as a trainee in 1998.

The applied nature of Darran’s degree gave him experience in a wide range of commercial fields such as fibre optics, semiconductor devices and microwave technology as well as the traditional physics subjects.

Having passed both the UK and the European patent examinations in 2002, Darran went on to pass the UK trade mark examinations in 2003, thereby completing his qualifications in all areas of intellectual property. He became a partner in the firm in April 2004. He is also a member of the Patents Committee of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys.

Darran mainly deals with general mechanical inventions and has developed a technical expertise in power converters and electrical machines.

Darran has travelled widely within the United States and has a particular interest in its history and hiking its National Parks. He enjoys watching most sports and is a keen rugby union and ice hockey fan.
